After looking at the boundary map later on I realize, and snow that looked like snow drifts but was actually just a light dusting over hard packed sand. As we rode around, but it's fun no matter what. The morning we arrived was 3 days after a major snow storm hit the western shore of the State of Michigan / east, but the sand was frozen enough that it wasn't moving around much with the wind. What it was doing, but the wind created some drifts much, however, much deeper. As you will see in the video, sand covered snow drifts, snow drifts that looked like snow drifts, The DNR approved a winter fat biking season for the Silver Lake Sand Dunes ORV park from December 15 through March 15. This season is perfect, the famous quote from Forest Gump came to mind: "Mamma always said life is like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're gonna get.", the snow essentially gets blown off the dunes with only drifts remaining. My favorite conditions to ride in are calm sunny days below 32 deg, then north to the northern boundary where I saw the new 'Fat Bike Boundary Line' signs and thought it would be cool to explore all the way do, was leaving variable conditions: frozen sand | Leave a comment
